How to Create a Warm and Cozy Home this Fall
Fall is a favorite season for many of us, but in North Florida it can go by almost unnoticed.
Don’t let that happen in your home. By being intentional with the five senses you can create
the perfect warm and cozy home that you desire and have fun celebrating the season.
Sight:
Dozens of pumpkins tumbling down steps is a beautiful look, but it’s not the only way to
give your home a festive look. One large heirloom pumpkin can serve as a stunning
statement peice. Pinecones, apples, acorns, and unshelled walnuts, used as fillers,
create a natural elegance this time of year. We love to add a basket of mums to our
home during the fall. When thinking about sight, remember that color is always an
understated, but impactful way to display the season. Rusty reds, terracotta oranges
and mustard yellows comprise a classic and beautiful fall color scheme, but almost any
combination of warm and earthy colors will work, including neutrals.
Touch:
Feel the textures around your home, particularly decorative pillowcases, sheets, and
blankets. Fall is the time to switch out cool, lightweight fabrics for heavier textiles. A
chunky throw blanket in an autumnal color will instantly bring some fall vibes to your
couch or bed. In Florida, we may not be ready for wool and flannel, but we can opt for
thicker fabrics with bulkier texture.
Hearing:
Autumn inspired music will elevate the experience of all the other senses. If you don’t
want to take the time to curate your own personal fall playlist, check out the many
seasonal playlists already available from music streaming services. Amazon music is my
go-to. Maybe you will enjoy Autumn Classical, Happy Fall Vibes or Disney Halloween.
Smell:
Fill your home with fragrances that bring out the warmth and richness of fall. Essential
oils and candles are plentiful in the comforting smells of cinnamon, amber, spiced
pumpkin, cloves, and sandalwood. Another option is to pick up a cinnamon boom stick
from almost any grocery store. These serve as being both decorative and aromatic. If
you notice the broom stick losing its scent, add a few drops from your fall inspired
essential oils to it.
Taste:
Fall offers some of the ultimate comfort foods: hearty stews, cheesy casseroles, and
pumpkin spice everything. What’s not to love? Bake some bread, make a pot of chili or
warm up apple cider. I doubt you’ll have any complaints! This is arguably the best of
the fall senses to increase in your home. And it does double duty filling the air with
delicious aromas of the season. Pumpkin bread is the all-time favorite at our house.
There are so many possibilities for each of the five senses to be brought to life in your home
this fall. Use your creativity
